Staff Sergeant Walter Albert Knapp was born on June 19, 1909 and grew up in Seymour, Connecticut with his parents before settling in Newport, Rhode Island with his wife in later years. He served in the 83 Infantry Division in the United States Army with his serial number being 6124316. On July 17, 1944, Knapp was killed in action at age 35 leaving behind his wife and newborn daughter. Today, he is buried in Normandy, France in plot F, row 10, grave 6. This website is dedicated to Walter A. Knapp who sacrificed his life in order to ensure the freedon of the country. He will forever be honored as he was deeply respected and loved by family, friends and peers.
